New nerve surgery aims to restore smiles for cancer survivors

Summary
This study is testing a specific nerve transfer surgery to see if it can improve facial movement and quality of life for head and neck cancer patients who have facial paralysis. Researchers will enroll 40 patients to measure changes in their facial function and daily life after the surgery. The results will be compared to a group of past patients who did not have this type of reconstructive surgery.
