Does breast cancer drug trastuzumab cause dry eye?
NCT ID NCT07666724
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This completed study from Semmelweis University looked at whether the breast cancer drug trastuzumab (Herceptin) causes dry eye or other eye surface problems. 35 adults with HER2-positive breast cancer took the drug as prescribed and visited the clinic every 3 months for eye exams. Researchers measured tear film stability and eye discomfort to see if the drug affects eye health.
What this could mean

What this could lead to
If successful, this could help doctors monitor and manage dry eye side effects in breast cancer patients receiving trastuzumab.
What could go wrong
This was a small, completed study with only 35 participants, so results may not apply to all patients. It only looked at eye symptoms, not overall treatment effectiveness.
