NCT ID NCT05285566
First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 26, 2026
Summary
This study tests whether a long-acting numbing drug called Exparel can reduce pain after rib cartilage removal for nasal surgery. About 60 adults having nasal surgery will receive either Exparel or standard lidocaine. The goal is to see if Exparel provides better pain control and reduces the need for oral pain medication.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Liposomal bupivacaine (Exparel)
What this could lead to
If it works, this could provide better pain control after rib cartilage harvest, reducing the need for oral pain medication.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-phase trial with only 60 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. The drug is already FDA-approved, but its benefit for this specific use is unproven.
