Can stem cell 'Messages' heal blood vessels after preeclampsia?

NCT ID NCT07183384

First seen Jun 26, 2026 ยท Last updated Jun 26, 2026

Summary

This study tests whether tiny particles from stem cells, called exosomes, can repair blood vessel damage in women who had preeclampsia during pregnancy. Preeclampsia raises the risk of heart disease later in life, and current treatments don't fully heal the blood vessels. The trial will involve 80 postpartum women, half receiving the exosome treatment and half a placebo, with follow-up after one week to check blood vessel health.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only โ€” not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance
Mesenchymal stem cell-derived exosomes (MSC-Exos)
What this could lead to
If it works, this could lead to a treatment that repairs blood vessel damage after preeclampsia, potentially lowering the risk of heart disease later in life.
What could go wrong
This is an early phase 1/2 trial with only 80 participants, so results may not apply to all women. The treatment is new, and side effects or lack of benefit are possible.
