New nerve block could make hernia surgery less stressful
NCT ID NCT07324863
First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study is testing whether a special nerve block, called EXORA, can reduce the body's stress response and pain during umbilical hernia surgery. One hundred adults will be randomly assigned to receive either general anesthesia alone or general anesthesia plus the EXORA block. Researchers will measure blood sugar and cortisol levels as stress indicators, and track how much pain medication patients need after surgery.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
bupivacaine
What this could lead to
If it works, this could lead to a better way to manage pain and stress during hernia surgery, potentially reducing the need for strong painkillers.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-stage trial. The nerve block may not provide significant benefit over standard anesthesia, and there are always risks like allergic reactions or nerve damage.
