New gene hunt could reveal why some young people get cancer

NCT ID NCT04141462

First seen Apr 15, 2026 · Last updated May 16, 2026 · Updated 4 times

Summary

This study looks for new genetic causes of cancer in people diagnosed at a young age (under 40, or under 30 for breast cancer). Standard genetic tests often miss the cause, so researchers will use a more detailed method called exome sequencing to search for hidden risk factors. The goal is to better understand hereditary cancer risks, not to provide a direct treatment.
