Could a single friendly gut bacterium prevent recurrent c. diff?
NCT ID NCT06306014
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Aug 12, 2026 · Updated 5 times
Summary
This study tests EXL01, a single strain of a beneficial gut bacterium (Faecalibacterium prausnitzii), to see if it can prevent repeat Clostridioides difficile infections in people at high risk. About 56 adults who have had at least two C. diff episodes will take EXL01 or a placebo by mouth. The goal is to see if this treatment is safe and reduces the chance of another infection at 8 weeks.
