Could a single friendly gut bug prevent c. diff from coming back?
NCT ID NCT06306014
First seen Oct 31, 2025 · Last updated May 14, 2026 · Updated 31 times
Summary
This study tests a new treatment called EXL01, which contains a single type of beneficial gut bacteria (Faecalibacterium prausnitzii), to see if it can prevent repeat Clostridioides difficile infections in people at high risk. About 56 adults who have had at least two or three C. diff episodes will take EXL01 or a placebo by mouth. The goal is to see if this approach is safe and reduces the chance of another infection at 8 weeks.
