Exercise and supplement combo tested for muscle weakness in osteoporosis
NCT ID NCT06287502
First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 26, 2026
Summary
This study tested whether a 12-week program of exercise and a nutritional supplement (containing HMB, protein, vitamin D, and omega-3) could improve muscle strength and mass in people with both osteoporosis and sarcopenia (age-related muscle loss). Thirteen participants were randomly assigned to either the program or usual care. The goal was to see if grip strength, walking speed, and muscle mass could be improved.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
β-hydroxy β-methylbutyrate (HMB) nutritional supplement plus exercise training
What this could lead to
If it works, this could point toward a practical way to help older adults with osteoporosis maintain muscle strength and function.
What could go wrong
This is a very small, completed trial with only 13 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. The supplement and exercise program may not work for all patients.
