Can exercise and magnetic pulses ease schizophrenia symptoms in seniors?

NCT ID NCT07194460

First seen Jun 27, 2026 ยท Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This study tests whether a device that sends magnetic pulses to nerves (peripheral magnetic stimulation) can reduce symptoms and improve daily function in older adults with schizophrenia. Forty participants aged 60 and older will be split into groups receiving either active or sham stimulation, or combining stimulation with exercise. The goal is to see if these approaches can help with thinking, mood, sleep, and physical abilities.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only โ€” not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance
Peripheral Magnetic Stimulation (PMS) device and exercise
What this could lead to
If it works, this could offer a safe, drug-free way to improve symptoms, mobility, and quality of life for older adults with schizophrenia.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-stage trial with only 40 participants, so results may not apply widely. The treatment is short-term (4 weeks), and benefits may be modest or not last.
