Scientists probe why fit people stay insulin sensitive despite high muscle fat

NCT ID NCT02150889

Summary

This study aims to understand how the body processes fat and sugar at rest, and how this relates to insulin resistance—a key factor in developing type 2 diabetes. Researchers are comparing overweight, sedentary adults with lean, aerobically trained adults, measuring them before and after a 16-week supervised treadmill program. The goal is to learn how regular exercise changes basic muscle metabolism to protect against insulin resistance, even when the body is at rest.
