Lupus Patients' exercise response under the microscope

NCT ID NCT05478018

First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 26, 2026

Summary

This study looked at how a 12-week program of high-intensity interval training (HIIT) affects fitness and fatigue in 55 people with lupus. Researchers wanted to understand if certain immune system signals (interferons) change how the body adapts to exercise. Participants were randomly assigned to supervised exercise or usual care, and their aerobic capacity and fatigue levels were measured.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) - supervised aerobic exercise

What this could lead to

If successful, this could help design better exercise programs tailored for people with lupus to improve fitness and reduce fatigue.

What could go wrong

This is a small, completed study (55 participants) that looks at biological responses, not a treatment. Results may not apply to all lupus patients.
