New exercise combo could ease postpartum belly pain
NCT ID NCT07520409
First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study tests whether combining two simple exercises—drawing in the belly and pulling the toes up against resistance—can help new mothers with diastasis recti (abdominal separation). Forty-two women who gave birth 6 weeks to 6 months ago will do these exercises 2-3 times a week for 6 weeks. Researchers will measure pain, muscle strength, belly gap, and quality of life to see if the routine helps.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- exercise program (drawing-in maneuver and resisted ankle dorsiflexion)
- What this could lead to
- If it works, this could offer a simple, non-surgical exercise routine to help new mothers with diastasis recti reduce pain and improve core strength.
- What could go wrong
- This is a small, early-stage trial with only 42 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. The exercises may not work for all cases, and there is no comparison to standard physical therapy.
