Exercise may sharpen aging minds in HIV patients
NCT ID NCT06013579
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study tests whether high-intensity interval training (HIIT) or moderate continuous exercise can improve thinking, memory, and daily function in 110 older adults with HIV who are sedentary and fatigued. Participants will exercise three times a week for four months. The goal is to see if exercise can lower dementia risk and help build long-term exercise habits.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
high-intensity interval training (HIIT) and continuous moderate exercise (CME)
What this could lead to
If successful, this could show that structured exercise programs help preserve brain function and build lasting exercise habits in older adults with HIV.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-stage study (110 participants) without a placebo control, so results may not apply broadly. Exercise adherence and individual health differences could affect outcomes.
