First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This study tests whether a moderate-to-vigorous exercise program can change the gut bacteria of people who have survived stage II or III colorectal cancer. Researchers will enroll 30 survivors and randomly assign them to either an exercise group or a health education group. The main goal is to see if the study is feasible, while also exploring how exercise affects gut bacteria and whether those changes relate to cancer outcomes and quality of life.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

Exercise intervention

What this could lead to

If it works, this could show that exercise improves gut bacteria in colorectal cancer survivors, pointing toward a way to enhance cancer prognosis and quality of life.

What could go wrong

This is a small pilot study with only 30 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. It focuses on feasibility, not proving health benefits, and the effects on gut bacteria may be minimal or unclear.
