Can exercise tweak tumor biology? new trial tests aerobic vs. resistance training in breast cancer
NCT ID NCT05297773
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This trial investigates whether structured exercise—either aerobic cycling or resistance training—can improve health-related biomarkers in women with breast cancer undergoing neoadjuvant therapy (chemotherapy or endocrine therapy before surgery). The main focus is on changes in Ki-67, a marker of tumor cell growth, along with secondary measures like body composition, fitness, quality of life, and tumor biology. Participants are randomly assigned to aerobic training, resistance training, or a relaxation control group for the duration of their treatment.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
exercise (aerobic training or resistance training)
What this could lead to
If exercise proves beneficial, it could become a standard part of breast cancer treatment to improve outcomes and well-being.
What could go wrong
This is a mid-sized trial, and results may not apply to all patients. Exercise may not significantly affect tumor biology.
