Sound waves open brain's shield to attack tumors

NCT ID NCT03551249

First seen Mar 31, 2026 · Last updated Apr 24, 2026 · Updated 2 times

Summary

This study tested whether a device called ExAblate can safely and repeatedly open the blood-brain barrier in 20 people with high-grade glioma (a type of brain cancer) who were already receiving standard chemotherapy. The goal was to let more chemotherapy reach the tumor. The study focused on safety and whether the barrier could be opened reliably, not on curing the disease.
