Battle of the polyp removers: which technique wins?
NCT ID NCT03962868
First seen Jan 23, 2026 · Last updated Apr 29, 2026 · Updated 11 times
Summary
This study compared two methods for removing large, flat colon polyps: endoscopic submucosal dissection (ESD) and endoscopic mucosal resection (EMR). ESD removes the polyp in one piece, which may lower the chance of it coming back, but it takes longer and has a higher risk of a hole in the colon. The study looked at 360 adults to see which method leads to fewer polyps returning after 6 months and which is more cost-effective over 3 years.
