Can a simple blood test spot sepsis faster? new study aims to find out
NCT ID NCT07655154
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study will check if certain blood markers can quickly tell whether a patient has sepsis or another life-threatening condition. Researchers will measure these markers over 24 hours in emergency patients with organ dysfunction. The goal is to improve early diagnosis and guide treatment decisions.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
blood biomarkers (preadrenomedullin, calprotectin, IL-6, IL-8, IL-10, MCP-1)
What this could lead to
If successful, this could lead to a faster, more accurate way to diagnose sepsis in the emergency room, potentially saving lives by enabling earlier treatment.
What could go wrong
This is a very small, early-stage study with only 2 participants planned initially. The biomarkers may not prove reliable enough for routine use, and results may not apply to all sepsis patients.
