Can a helping hand help elderly cancer patients finish chemo?
NCT ID NCT05066139
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study tests whether a special program of nutritional checks, medication review, and physical therapy can help people aged 75 and older complete their full course of chemotherapy for digestive cancer. About 144 participants will be randomly assigned to receive either the extra support or standard care. The main goal is to see if more patients in the support group finish all planned treatment cycles.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
EPODIG-G program (nutritional evaluation, medication review, physical therapy)
What this could lead to
If it works, this could show that early supportive care helps elderly patients finish their full course of chemotherapy, potentially improving treatment outcomes.
What could go wrong
This is a small, single-center study with no blinding, so results may not apply broadly. The program adds extra visits and tests, which could be burdensome for some patients.
