Brain scans seek clues to prevent sudden death in epilepsy

NCT ID NCT07249034

First seen Jan 05, 2026 · Last updated Apr 30, 2026 · Updated 14 times

Summary

This study uses brain scans to see if epilepsy changes certain receptors in the brainstem that help control breathing and waking up. Researchers will compare 50 people with drug-resistant epilepsy to healthy volunteers. The goal is to better understand why some people with epilepsy may stop breathing during sleep, which could lead to sudden death.
