Scientists scan brains to unlock mystery of Epilepsy-Related deaths
NCT ID NCT07249034
Summary
This study aims to understand how drug-resistant epilepsy might change specific pathways in the brain that control breathing and sleep-wake cycles. Researchers will use advanced MRI and PET scans to compare brain activity and chemistry in 50 adults (some with epilepsy, some healthy) while they perform simple breathing tasks. The goal is to gather knowledge that could one day help prevent a rare but serious complication called SUDEP.
