Scientists test 'Supercharged' immune cells against deadly viruses in vulnerable patients

NCT ID NCT05101213

Summary

This early-stage study is testing whether specially modified immune cells can safely help control serious viral infections in cancer patients with weakened immune systems. Researchers are collecting a patient's own T-cells, genetically engineering them to better target specific viruses like CMV, adenovirus, or COVID-19, and then infusing them back into the patient. The main goals are to see if this process is feasible, safe, and shows early signs of helping fight these infections.
