Cannabis-Like drugs may unlock diabetes secrets

NCT ID NCT01517100

First seen Jun 24, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This study tested two drugs that act on the body's endocannabinoid system—nabilone and CP-945,598—to see how they affect insulin production and sensitivity. Forty-five healthy men aged 21 to 55 took part in four visits, each receiving a different drug combination. The goal was to better understand how this system regulates insulin, which could lead to new diabetes treatments.

What this could lead to

If successful, this could point toward new treatment approaches for type 2 diabetes by targeting the endocannabinoid system.
