First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study tests an online self-help program called Empower@Home for older adults with depression who have trouble walking. The program includes 9 online sessions, a workbook, and phone coaching from a trained staff member. Researchers will compare it to usual care in 64 participants to see if it improves mood and social engagement.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Empower@Home online cognitive-behavioral therapy program with telephone coaching
What this could lead to
If it works, this could provide a practical, home-based way to reduce depression and improve social activity in older adults with walking difficulties.
What could go wrong
This is a small early-stage trial with only 64 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. The program requires internet access and phone coaching, which may not suit all older adults.
