Can eye movements ease depression? new study investigates
NCT ID NCT07033741
First seen Jun 24, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study will observe 40 adults in Italy receiving EMDR therapy for depressive symptoms. Researchers want to find out which factors—like personal beliefs, anxiety, or the therapist-patient relationship—influence how well the therapy works. The goal is to better understand how to personalize EMDR for depression, not to test a new treatment.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy
What this could lead to
If successful, this study could identify which patient factors make EMDR most effective for depression, helping tailor therapy to individuals.
What could go wrong
This is a small observational study (40 participants) without a control group, so results may not apply broadly. It aims to understand, not prove, treatment effectiveness.
