Brain wave test may predict TMS success in depressed veterans
NCT ID NCT05008198
First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study is testing whether an EEG (a simple brain wave recording) can predict which veterans with treatment-resistant depression will improve with transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS). About 266 veterans will get EEG scans before, during, and after TMS treatment. The goal is to find a reliable brain signal that tells doctors early on if TMS is working for a particular person.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS)
- What this could lead to
- If successful, this could help doctors predict who will respond to TMS for depression, saving time and improving treatment choices.
- What could go wrong
- This is an observational study, not a treatment trial. It aims to find a biomarker, not to prove TMS works. Results may not apply to all patients.
