Brain zaps before shock therapy may boost depression treatment

NCT ID NCT07324070

First seen Jan 08, 2026 · Last updated May 14, 2026 · Updated 21 times

Summary

This study tests whether using magnetic brain stimulation (TMS) right before electroconvulsive therapy (ECT) can make ECT work better and faster for people with severe, treatment-resistant depression. About 50 adults will receive both treatments, and researchers will measure changes in seizure threshold, recovery time, and mood scores. The goal is to see if this combination can reduce side effects and speed up relief.
