Ecstasy pills tested as breakthrough treatment for untreatable pain
NCT ID NCT07301632
Summary
This small pilot study is testing whether MDMA (commonly known as ecstasy), combined with psychotherapy, can help people with severe, treatment-resistant nerve pain. Forty adults with long-term, debilitating pain will receive either MDMA or an active placebo during a guided therapy session, followed by several weeks of integration therapy. The main goal is to see if this approach is safe and feasible to study in a larger trial, while also checking if it meaningfully reduces pain and improves daily life after 16 weeks.
