Could a common virus be causing dental implants to fail?
NCT ID NCT03631849
First seen Jun 27, 2026 ยท Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study examined 30 adults with dental implants to see if the Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) is linked to peri-implantitis, a disease that can cause implant loss. Researchers measured virus levels in gum samples and compared them to the severity of gum pockets. The goal was to better understand the disease, not to test a treatment.
