Can a smartphone app help people with obesity lose weight?
NCT ID NCT07183228
First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 26, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This pilot study tests a smartphone app called Eatit that provides a structured lifestyle program with support from a dietitian via video calls and messages. About 93 adults with obesity (BMI 30 or higher) will use the app for six months. Researchers will track changes in weight, waist size, eating habits, and self-rated health to see if the program helps people lose weight.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
digital lifestyle intervention (Eatit app with dietitian support)
What this could lead to
If successful, this could provide an accessible, app-based weight loss program for people with obesity, potentially improving health without in-person visits.
What could go wrong
This is a small pilot study with no control group, so results may not prove the app works better than other methods. Weight loss depends on self-reporting, which can be inaccurate.
