Should women eat during labor? new study tests digestion speed

NCT ID NCT03490682

Summary

This study aimed to understand if digestion slows down during labor, which affects whether women should be allowed to eat. Researchers measured how quickly a light meal emptied from the stomach in four groups: women in labor with and without pain relief, pregnant women, and non-pregnant women. The goal was to provide evidence to help create clearer and safer guidelines about eating during childbirth.
