First seen May 12, 2026 · Last updated May 15, 2026 · Updated 2 times
Summary
This study looked at whether providing diabetes patients who are at risk for food insecurity with debit cards for fruits and vegetables, plus nutrition education, could improve their blood sugar control and reduce emergency room visits. Over 2,000 adults from a diabetes registry took part. Researchers compared those who got the produce benefit and education to those who only got educational materials. The goal was to see if better access to healthy food helps manage diabetes and lowers healthcare use.
