Baby hip brace: miracle fix or unnecessary worry?
NCT ID NCT02885831
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study looked at whether using a soft hip brace (abduction splint) for two months in one-month-old babies with mild hip dysplasia (stable hips but abnormal ultrasound) improves hip development. 90 infants were enrolled. The goal was to see if the brace makes hip ultrasound measurements normal. The results could help decide if early splinting is beneficial or just overtreatment.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Neut Supple Hip Abduction Cushion (a soft device that holds the baby's legs apart)
What this could lead to
If successful, this could show that early splinting helps correct mild hip dysplasia without more invasive treatments.
What could go wrong
This is a small, completed study with only 90 infants, so results may not apply to all babies. The device may not improve outcomes and could cause discomfort or overtreatment.
