Urine test may replace needle biopsies for kidney transplant patients
NCT ID NCT01380847
First seen Jan 07, 2026 · Last updated May 15, 2026 · Updated 16 times
Summary
This study looked at whether a simple urine test could predict kidney scarring (fibrosis) after a kidney transplant, instead of doing an invasive biopsy. Researchers measured certain genetic markers in the urine of 300 kidney transplant recipients over the first year after surgery. The goal was to see if these markers could forecast long-term kidney damage and help doctors monitor transplant health more safely.
