Early drug use in surgery aims to prevent dangerous blood pressure drops and complications

NCT ID NCT05276596

Summary

This study tested whether giving a blood pressure medication called norepinephrine early during major abdominal surgery could prevent dangerous drops in blood pressure and reduce serious complications after surgery. It involved 500 patients aged 50 and older who were having major abdominal operations. Researchers compared giving the drug preventively to the standard practice of using it only after blood pressure problems occur.
