Can intensive day therapy help teens beat anorexia?
NCT ID NCT06218472
First seen Jun 24, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study tests whether early, intensive day hospital treatment—with family involvement and multidisciplinary care—can improve outcomes for adolescents with anorexia nervosa compared to standard outpatient care. About 164 teens aged 12-18 with recent-onset anorexia will be enrolled. The goal is to see if this approach reduces hospitalizations and emergency visits over one year.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Day hospital treatment (multidisciplinary care including pediatrician, psychiatrist, dietitian, and family sessions)
What this could lead to
If it works, this could show that early, intensive day hospital care helps teens with anorexia recover faster and reduces hospital visits.
What could go wrong
This is a relatively small study (164 participants) and results may not apply to all patients. The intervention is intensive and may not be feasible everywhere.
