Amino acid supplement and exercise: a recipe for stronger muscles and sharper energy?
NCT ID NCT07792603
First seen Aug 28, 2026 · Last updated Sep 04, 2026 · Updated 4 times
Summary
Researchers at the University of North Carolina are testing whether a daily essential amino acid supplement, called Daily Upgrade EAA+, combined with twice-weekly high-intensity interval training (HIIT) can improve muscle size, metabolic rate, and energy in healthy women aged 25 to 45. The study has two parts: an acute phase where participants receive the supplement, whey protein, or a placebo before a single HIIT session, and a chronic phase where they take the supplement or placebo for three weeks while doing HIIT. The team measures amino acid levels, fat burning, lean body mass, and muscle size to see if the supplement adds benefits beyond exercise alone.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only, not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- An essential amino acid supplement (Daily Upgrade EAA+) compared with whey protein and placebo, with or without high-intensity interval training
- What this could lead to
- If it works, this could point toward a simple supplement-plus-exercise routine that helps healthy women improve muscle tone, metabolism, and energy.
- What could go wrong
- The trial is small and short, so results may not apply broadly. Supplements can cause digestive discomfort, and the benefits may be modest or absent.
