Can a website help end HIV in rural oklahoma?
NCT ID NCT05664802
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This completed study tested an online program designed to encourage HIV and syphilis testing, condom use, and PrEP uptake among young American Indian men and gay/bisexual men in rural Oklahoma. Researchers worked with community advisors to tailor health materials to local culture. The goal was to see if the approach was feasible and acceptable, not to cure or treat HIV.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
What this could lead to
If successful, this approach could point toward a scalable way to boost HIV testing and prevention in underserved rural communities.
What could go wrong
This was a small, early feasibility study with only 200 participants, so results may not apply broadly. The intervention is behavioral, not a medical treatment, so it cannot cure or directly treat HIV.
