New combo therapy aims to stall lung cancer
NCT ID NCT03519971
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jul 15, 2026 · Updated 2 times
Summary
This phase 3 trial tests whether adding the immunotherapy drug durvalumab to standard chemotherapy and radiation can help people with stage III lung cancer that cannot be removed by surgery. About 328 participants will receive either durvalumab or a placebo alongside their chemo and radiation. The main goal is to see if the combination delays cancer growth.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- Durvalumab (an immunotherapy drug) given with chemotherapy and radiation
- What this could lead to
- If it works, this could offer a new treatment option that helps control stage III lung cancer for longer without the cancer growing.
- What could go wrong
- This is still being tested, and results may not show a clear benefit. Immunotherapy can cause side effects like inflammation in healthy organs.
