Immunotherapy combo shows promise in shrinking lung tumors before surgery
NCT ID NCT05925530
First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jul 01, 2026 · Updated 3 times
Summary
This phase 2 trial is testing whether giving the immunotherapy drug durvalumab along with standard chemotherapy before surgery or radiation can help people with stage IIB-IIIB non-small cell lung cancer. The study includes 142 participants whose tumors are considered removable or borderline removable. After initial treatment, some will have surgery followed by more durvalumab, while others will get chemoradiation followed by durvalumab. The main goal is to see how many people can successfully have their tumors surgically removed.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- durvalumab (an immunotherapy drug) plus platinum-based chemotherapy
- What this could lead to
- If successful, this approach could improve the chances of completely removing lung cancer tumors and help keep the cancer from coming back.
- What could go wrong
- This is a mid-stage trial with only 142 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. Immunotherapy can cause serious side effects like inflammation of the lungs or other organs.
