NCT ID NCT05725668
First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study tests whether a type of tai chi that combines movement with a mental task can reduce falls in older adults with mild cognitive impairment. Researchers will compare dual-task tai ji quan, standard tai ji quan, and stretching exercises in 336 people aged 65 and older who have had a fall or are at risk. Participants will report falls monthly, and their physical function will be measured over time.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- dual-task tai ji quan training
- What this could lead to
- If it works, this could provide a simple, drug-free way to help older adults with memory problems stay steady on their feet and avoid dangerous falls.
- What could go wrong
- This is a behavioral study, not a drug trial, so results may be modest. The effect depends on participants sticking with the exercise, and it may not work for everyone.
