First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 2 times

Summary

This study tests whether doing mental tasks while performing shoulder exercises can improve pain and function better than standard exercises alone. 46 adults with chronic shoulder pain from rotator cuff issues will participate in a 6-week program. Researchers will measure pain, shoulder function, and fear of movement at the start, after 6 weeks, and at 12 weeks.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance
Dual-task-based exercise therapy (physical exercises combined with cognitive tasks)
What this could lead to
If it works, this could offer a more effective exercise program for people with chronic shoulder pain, potentially improving pain and function better than standard exercises.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-stage trial with only 46 participants. The dual-task approach may not prove superior to standard exercises, and results may not apply to all shoulder pain patients.
