App-Based diet tracking tested in rare disease
NCT ID NCT05738005
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This pilot trial is testing whether amyloidosis patients can use the MyFitnessPal smartphone app to track their daily food and supplement intake for 8 weeks. The goal is to see if this low-cost method is feasible for studying malnutrition and weight loss in this condition. Forty adults with any type of amyloidosis will use the app and complete questionnaires to measure how well they stick with the tracking.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
MyFitnessPal smartphone application
What this could lead to
If successful, this could show that a simple smartphone app is a feasible way to collect detailed dietary data in amyloidosis patients, helping researchers better understand malnutrition in this disease.
What could go wrong
This is a very small pilot study (40 people) testing only whether patients will use the app, not whether it improves health. The results may not apply to all amyloidosis patients, and the app may not capture accurate dietary information.
