Shocking the pain away? new study tests nerve stimulation against placebo
NCT ID NCT07170722
First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated May 23, 2026 · Updated 28 times
Summary
This study tested whether a low-level electrical stimulation of nerves near the spine (DRG stimulation) can reduce chronic pain better than a placebo (sham). Twenty adults who already have a DRG stimulator implanted took part. Each person received both active stimulation and sham for 5 days each, in random order, and reported their pain, sleep, and mood twice daily. The goal was to see if the stimulation truly helps beyond the placebo effect.
