Kidney issues may skew chemo safety test, new study warns
NCT ID NCT07124403
First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated May 12, 2026 · Updated 29 times
Summary
This study looks at how well the DPD enzyme works in people with cancer and/or kidney failure. The DPD enzyme breaks down common chemotherapy drugs, and low activity can cause severe side effects. Doctors currently use a blood test to check DPD function, but kidney problems may make that test less reliable. The study will measure DPD activity directly in blood cells from about 742 participants to improve dosing guidelines.
