Trou normand myth tested: does strong alcohol really aid digestion?
NCT ID NCT06728761
First seen Jan 06, 2026 · Last updated May 13, 2026 · Updated 16 times
Summary
This study looked at whether drinking a small amount of Calvados (a strong apple brandy) during a rich meal helps the stomach empty faster. Eight healthy adults ate a high-calorie meal and either had Calvados with sorbet or water with sorbet. Researchers used ultrasound to measure stomach emptying and asked about discomfort and appetite. The goal was to see if the popular 'Trou Normand' tradition has any real digestive benefit.
