Color-Changing cards could soothe scared kids during breathing treatments

NCT ID NCT07371026

First seen Jun 24, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This study will test whether using special distraction cards or color-changing thermochromic cards can reduce pain, fear, and anxiety in children aged 4-6 who are receiving inhaler therapy for respiratory infections. About 90 children will be randomly assigned to use one type of card or standard care. Researchers will measure fear, pain, and anxiety levels before, during, and after treatment, as well as how long the procedure takes.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance
distractor cards and thermochromic cards
What this could lead to
If effective, these simple cards could offer a drug-free way to make inhaler therapy less scary and painful for young children.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-stage study (90 children) testing a non-medical intervention. The cards may not significantly reduce distress, and results may not apply to all children or settings.
