New study tests safer exam method for preterm water break

NCT ID NCT05773014

First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This study looks at 86 pregnant women whose water breaks early (before 37 weeks). It compares two ways doctors check the cervix: a traditional speculum exam and a digital exam using fingers. The goal is to see if digital exams affect how long the pregnancy lasts before delivery. Researchers want to know if digital exams are safe and non-inferior to speculum exams.
