AI symptom tracker aims to catch early colon cancer in young adults

NCT ID NCT07618273

First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This study tests whether a smartphone app called Smart Symptom Tracking ALEX can help young adults (ages 18-44) track gastrointestinal symptoms better than traditional paper logs. The app uses artificial intelligence to provide reminders, coaching, and education. Researchers want to see if the app improves how well people report symptoms and communicate with their doctors, which could lead to earlier detection of colorectal cancer. The trial involves 50 participants over four weeks.

What this could lead to

If it works, this could give young adults a better way to track GI symptoms and communicate concerns to doctors, potentially leading to earlier detection of colorectal cancer.

What could go wrong

This is a small, early feasibility study with only 50 participants. The app may not improve symptom tracking or health outcomes compared to standard paper logs.
