NCT ID NCT06318962

First seen Jun 27, 2026 ยท Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This study tests a smartphone app called Aviva that delivers a type of therapy (Brief Cognitive Behavioral Therapy) to service members who have had recent suicidal thoughts or attempts. The goal is to see if the app reduces suicidal thinking and behavior better than standard care. About 400 participants will be randomly assigned to use Aviva or a standard safety-planning app, and they will be followed for up to 12 months.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only โ€” not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance
Aviva digital therapeutic (smartphone app delivering Brief Cognitive Behavioral Therapy)
What this could lead to
If successful, this could provide a scalable, effective digital therapy to prevent suicidal behaviors in service members and others at risk.
What could go wrong
This is a relatively early-stage trial with 400 participants, and digital therapies may not work for everyone. The app is not an emergency alert system, so it may not help in a crisis.
